Episode two of NBC’s “Great American Road Trip” aired in its new time slot, Monday at 8/7c. If you missed the episode due to the last minute schedule change, this is a roundup of all the places the families visited this week with links to more information about the sights.
Ted Drewes Frozen Custard (St. Louis, Missouri): The families first stop was a visit to this famous frozen custard stand. The stand originally opened back in 1929 and is famous for its custard that is so hard it sticks to the cup. There are two stands in St. Louis. The main store is at 6726 Chippewa and the other is at 4224 S Grand Blvd. (only open during the summer). For more information, click here.
Meramec Caverns (Stanton, Missouri): Outlaw Jesse James once hid in these caverns after a botched bank robbery. This location now offers guided tours of the caves for $13. The caves are just 60 minutes away from St. Louis and the Gateway Arch. Find out more about the caverns at the official site.
Branson, Missouri: The families performed in a talent show in the “Live Music Show Capital of the World.” Branson has over 50 live performance theaters, 12 golf courses, a theme park, and a lot more to explore. Check out the city’s web site for more information.
Best Western (Branson, Missouri): The Pollard family won a stay at Branson’s Best Western for being the best team in the talent competition (NBC is clearly sparing no expense when it comes to this show
). I’m not sure which one of the four Best Westerns in the city they stayed at but I doubt anyone cares anyway.
66 Drive-In Theatre (Carthage, Missouri): The King of the Road Challenge took place at one of the last drive-in theaters on Route 66.
